i had come to the island
with a few notions in my head
one of which was planted there by the very gifted Guernseyian
Lenny
who, among his many other talents
is a master maker of Pooh Sticks.
So
when the second morning dawned sunny and calm
i put on my water socks and shoes
(yes, i know, socks in sandals...but
given that i cannot take more than a few steps barefoot
i am required to wear shoes almost always
and i don't like the feeling of sand caught between straps and skin.
Besides
it's a terrific excuse for more fun socks!)
and i headed down to the natural harbor
because the ocean was still tossing up rather big waves.
i was looking around for bits of sticks, feathers or other Pooh Stick stuff
as inspired by Lenny
when i saw this and many more like it
(as you can see, i gave in to temptation
at least long enough to give you a good look at these rad socks)
Nantucket is famous for its scalloping
and then the thought came to me:
the island Daffodil Festival was just a few days off.
So
i went back to the cottage
collected some daffs
and came back to sail my little Not-Pooh stick ships
Still photos can't show them actually sailing
so i switched to video mode
(note to self: in future, check white balance setting)
i'm sure you noticed in this brief little bit
that the shell and sun were creating fascinating shadows onto the sand
so i decided to see what an empty shell and sun would do
And
as almost always happens when fooling about in tiny boats
the daffodils took several dunkings
and when it was time to head back for lunch
it seemed best to let the breeze and water take them
At least we zephyrs feel it's the best way.
Soooo pretty! What a wonderful, relaxing, creative pastime--to quietly play with nature and notice little things that hold such great beauty :D
