If you have been reading this blog for any length of time
you will know that i suffer from RSAD (Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder)
and must bite my tongue when
during a drought
i hear people exclaim "Isn't this a great summer we're having?"
In other words: isn't great we haven't had any rainy days
People can be so dense
so narrow in their vision
(not me, of course!)
i want to pounce on them and ask
"And just how great will it be when you go to the faucet and no water comes out?"
Friends in other parts of the US know exactly what i'm talking about
it's been a terrible, sun-baked, dry summer.
As do those in AU who have endured some dangerous droughts.
We've been very lucky this year
we've had almost average rainfall the last several months
at least in our neighborhood.
My friend who lives only 7.5 miles from here
had almost no rain for most of the summer
folks who live a few miles further on have had their
homes damaged by floods!
Weird, weird weather.
Anyway
last week
all 7 days of it
were overcast and drizzily if not rainy
you would have thought the dementors had descended
from the way most humans i encountered were moaning and groaning.
it takes longer for me to miss the sun.
oh well
The last 3 days have been sunny and more like our typical August
and the resident felines are quite satisfied with the turn of weather
Spike jumped up to the window here
as the first rays came over the tree tops
I so agree with you. But, let people live for any length of time in serious drought and they soon change their ideas about rainy days. People almost dance in the streets here now when it rains. (I might not dance in the street, but I certainly do a little jig around the house on a wet morning!!) ;o)

I know EXACTLY what you mean! And there have been several times when I've read your blog and you've mentioned rain over the past several months and I've envied you! We started 2007 with a deficit and it's getting worse by the day. The hottest and driest August on record, by far. We've had 8 days of broken records for heat. It makes me so sad.

We LOVE the rain here in Australia! The weather forecasters and announcers jump up and down with joy when rain is on the map.

Don't you just love those numnuts that say "we've had such a terrible summer" on the only cool day all season. I guess it's the same with the folks who think it's a great summer when it doesn't rain! Extremely obvious they don't have a clue that in addition to humans and animals our plants need rain too. Definitely NOT gardeners.
I loved your blog.

I agree entirely with your post!! We are getting a little bit of rain now..FINALLY! Didn't dance , but ate my dinner on the porch~ enjoyed the breeze,~almost forgot what one of those were, and enjoyed the smell and sound of the rain, and so did my plants!! My cat who despises getting wet was out walking about in it!! ~ I think he has missed it too!! And that is a wonderful shot of spike, do you have crystals or something in your window that caused the beautiful rainbow like colors on his face or was it just the magic of the sun rays, and your great capture..?
Also the sky pic in earlier post, great clouds, wild looking weren't they.?! Enjoyed my visit as always!! :)

We get plenty of rain here in the western fringes normally. This summer has been too wet fro comfort, certainly for the people in the UK who were hit by floods. But actually, I don't mind a cool summer. Summer is quite a heavy working period for us on house and garden, and we very quickly flag if it gets too hot, plus I like being able to take the dog out without worrying if she'll get heatstroke, or if I really ought to give in and have her coat all shorn off.
That is one handsome cat!

Yes!! Dancing in the streets....and a pox upon those who chase the clouds away for too long!!
Lucy, i totally agree with you...and i also feel terrible when too much rain comes too fast and destroys homes and lives.
Cat, the refraction is some magical combination of whiskers, angles and lenses.
Thanks, Cathy!! Please come again.
