i have a date with her every morning
just outside the alcove window
me with my tea
she with her salvias, agastaches and evening primrose.
i love being eye to eye with her
and watcing her swoop in
suddenly pull up
back arched
tail cocked, counter balancing

she really doesn't care that i am there
or the cats
as long as i don't feel the need to suddenly
stand up and stretch with great sweeping
grandiose waving about of the arms
and the cat doesn't jump onto the window sill.

it was curious to me what happened as i tried to
draw this:
i quick grabbed pad and pencil to get the
flowers before they opened further
then drew from the guidebook again
and found it next to impossible to
get the scale accurate between flower and hummer.
would have been much easier if
i had drawn her first, then the flowers.
thank heavens for Photoshop!
