regarding the Bread & Milk posting:
Jon, as always, i love your story and i laughed and laughed!
(though i'm sorry to say
that i may be provoking another gag response today!)
Laura, Terri and Peruby Thank You for your comments
which bring to mind another meal i'd almost forgotten:
Milk Toast!
---Jon,quick! go to the Steelers web site before
you ralph!! :^)
in our home it was cinnamon toast
placed in a wide bowl
with hot milk poured over it.
ooohh, i hope i remember this when the
weather turns chilly!
Hmmmm, sounds a bit like a fore-runner of bread & butter pudding. Gee talk about trips down memory lane! I haven't thought about bread & butter pudding for years. Think I'll phone my mum for her recipe and make it for my kids next time they are home. They'll probably gag and say "how revolting" or something similar. Oh well...more for me. :o)

Yes, add some nutmeg, please! Nursery food, so comforting.

Ok, so I tried it. It didn't taste bad, and I could handle the soggy bread (you just have to eat fast), but I used cold milk, and my toaster oven only gets one side, so the bread was soft on the bottom, making it get soggy faster. I think if I remedied these two things, it would have been even better. So, I stand corrected. Good stuff.
