the Italian family who owned the first nursery i worked in called these "milk pumpkins" others call them "cheese pumpkins" i call them my favorite "pumpkin pie pumpkin"
oooh I love this - the hands look fantastic against the pumpkin and don't you love the word gourd too? Gourd - kind of pirate-y .... mmm C'pin Pumpkin Gourrrrd - arrrrr
this pumpkin is actually a gorgeous creamy-yellowish-tan color with a tiny bit of pale rose thrown in to the skin as well. and i believe, Carol that all gourds have a very thick, hard skin/shell and few are considered food crops. Gourds are the ones that have been used for centuries by cultures where they are native: Mexico, Central and South America, many of the islands...you still find them, at least here in the states, at craft shows made into ladels, birdhouses etc and even more sophisticated artist expression...some artists use them to make really gorgeous carvings, painting, etc.

Is that a white pumpkin then? I'd like to get one, but can only find orange pumpkins over here. And btw., may I ask what gourd means?

Those hands are beautiful. Wow, this photo reminds me of those of Georgia O'Keefe's hands by Alfred Stieglitz. Beautiful photo in toto, by the way.
